UV Crop Protection Technology
Technology Summary This technology allows the eradication of several commercially important pathogens from agricultural crops, without the use of chemicals such as Volatile Organic Compounds.The technology uses the proven sterilizing effects of Ultraviolet Lights (UV-C) in such a manner that the pathogens die, and the crop not suffers any negative effects.So far, the technology has been proven on several commercially important fungal diseases, such as Phythophthora infestans (“potato blight”) that consumes 480 million EUROS in fungicides annually in Europe alone. The technology has also been proven on several fungi that are costly in the Dutch greenhouse industry, such as Botrytis end powdery mildew, on crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and roses. We expect to find many more pathogen/crop combinations on which the technology will prove effective.The technology meets with the European legislation with regards to food safety and worker safety.The main benefits of the technology are:1.Reduced or eliminated presence of certain fungicides and insecticides on many food stuffs.2.Reduced presence of these chemicals in watercourses, soil, and air.3.For greenhouse operators: energy savings4.For open ground producers: less dependency on weather conditions5.Lower cost per hectareThe technology is protected by several patent applications, including worldwide PCT patent application number 05109881.2, with priority date 24 October 2005-Field of Application Agriculture, including greenhouse horticulture, fruit orchards, and regular farm crops.-Target Company: Manufacturers of agricultural machinery who can obtain a license to incorporate this technology into their product range (via license with Clean Light BV)orAgro-chemical corporations who can profit from licensing this technology worldwide (via master license with Clean Light BV)
