ZrO2-CeO2 Fuel Cell

Fuel cell is the system to convert chemical energy induced from oxidation of fuel into electric energy. It is advantageous compared to other energy source in respect of efficiency and pollution control. The research has focused on the production process of solid electrolyte which is crucial to decide the efficiency of the cell and is an essential element of solid electrolyte type fuel cell. Solid electrolyte material of fuel cell requires high ion condution, strong resistance against reducing, low temperature for calcination. Currently yttria stabilizing YSZ is used in industry but it has high operating temperature for its low ion conduction and high manufacturing temperature for its calcination property. The research developed Y-doped ZrO2 - CeO2 electrolyte with high ion conduction and also overcame low resistance against reducing problem which is the disadvantageous property of CeO2 type electrolyte. Also to lower the calcination temperature, low temperature calcination processing technique is developed by improving deposition process.
